December One
Today was supposed to be an errand day. Mimi offered to keep the kids while I went to take care of some things, like get a driver's license, get a tire repaired, and follow up on a job hunt. We got ready and headed over to Mimi's. I called the driver's license division to find out what I needed and discovered I had to go to the VA office to get proof I was a veteran. I called and of course they failed to mention they were about to close for lunch. So when I got there I had nearly an hour to wait. So decided to head to Sears to get my tire patched. They told me an hour so I went to the bookstore. Over an hour later I came back and of course they hadn't even touched it. They were even working on cars that came in after mine. So I left, headed to the VA and got my form.
Once I got the driver's license office, I got to wait, and wait, and wait. They wanted a birth certificate, then decided they had enough info, then someone else wanted a birth certificate. It was aggravating, but I finally got my license. Afterward, I headed to follow up on some job prospects. My car decided it wouldn't shift out of second gear. Then the transmission failed completely. I coasted into a parking lot, stopped and restarted the car and was able to get a little further down the road before it did the same thing. So I called my brother and described everything to him. Looks like the transmission is shot and a new one would cost more than the car is presently worth.
I must admit it's kind of hard having a day like this wondering "why." I know God will provide. But it's still hard. I am thankful for being close to family. We were able to borrow Poppie's old car for Les to drive to work tomorrow. I'm also thankful for the good news we recieved from our mortgage guy and everything on the house looks like it's set. I'm thankful for an encouraging conversation I had with a brother in Christ today, concerning a hurtful situation we've been involved in. So there's much to be thankful for in light of all that's going on.
